What do you do when your online family is a big part of your journey – you invite them to join virtually and celebrate with you. A gala of tradition, family, friends and festivities is what the Indian wedding season is all about. The grandeur is evident from over-the-top celebrations and carefully curated candid shots flooding social media. Weddings have never been a union of two but a grand celebration with loved ones. Taking a step up from the traditional route, Kerala-based gaming creator Athul Jayadev, a.k.a MenAtArms live streamed his wedding on Loco, an Indian e-sports and live streaming platform. The wedding video was live streamed on October 21st and has garnered close to 70K views till date, clocking in nearly 60K views within the first 24 hours.
Today, fan and influencer communities, such as the ones on Loco, are at the heart of live streaming and are also considered the best part of it. The engaging interaction with viewers and the unique trademark of each creator is what develops a sense of resonance and belonging in a community. New audiences watching streams with curiosity and awe, regular viewers who become friends, and traditions and events that everyone can be a part of, are what make this belonging truly special.
Commenting on how the idea came to be, Athul Jayadev said, “My online community has been a big part of my journey and it was important for me that they witnessed an important personal milestone as well. Extending an invitation to my large family of online viewers is difficult. Nevertheless, I wanted to make sure they were a part of my celebration and that led me to live stream my wedding. When I set up the stream I did not expect a big turnout, but I am happy, especially my wife and my family, with how it has turned out and all the love I received.”
The bride and groom were dressed in traditional Kerala wedding attire, the groom was seen in a white Mundu and Shirt while the wife adorned a gorgeous Kasavu Sari.
