Writer and filmmaker Kumar Kaustubh has announced the upcoming release of It Is Very Important, a thought-provoking literary novel set against the lush, ancient landscape of India’s Western Ghats. Blending philosophical inquiry with imaginative storytelling, the book explores themes of consciousness, language and the ownership of knowledge through a narrative that is both original and deeply reflective.
The story unfolds within the Adhyayan Pustakalay, a four-hundred-year-old private library carefully preserved by the Nambiar family. Housing thousands of rare manuscripts, the library is home to the legendary Vaisheshika Samhita, a remarkable text believed to have proposed ideas of biological adaptation centuries before Darwin. When seven researchers from the Bharat Institute of Advanced Anthropological Research arrive to examine the manuscript, their scholarly mission gradually transforms into something far more profound, challenging their assumptions about reading, intelligence and the very nature of awareness.

At the emotional heart of the novel lies the evolving relationship between Adivesh Nambiar, the young custodian who has grown up surrounded by forty thousand books, and Dr. Shaberi Mehta, a neurolinguist whose once-overlooked research on written language begins to acquire unexpected significance within the library’s enigmatic walls.

In one of its most striking narrative developments, an ant colony residing inside the library slowly develops cognition and literacy, learning to read and communicate in Tamil. Portrayed not as metaphor but as fully realized characters, the ants become central to the novel’s philosophical exploration, raising a profound question: who truly has the right to knowledge?

Structured in five acts inspired by Sanskrit dramaturgy — Creation, Seeking, Awakening, Dissolution and Liberation — the novel harmoniously balances speculative imagination with emotional depth. With this ambitious work, Kumar Kaustubh brings together his cinematic sensibilities and philosophical interests, establishing himself as a distinctive new voice in contemporary Indian fiction. Scheduled for release in 2026, It Is Very Important promises a compelling and intellectually rich reading experience.
