Actor Srikant Dwivedi, currently portraying Lord Vishnu in Shiv Shakti-Tap Tyag Tandav, shares his deep love for cows. While having a calf as a pet is uncommon, Srikant proudly has one in his hometown. When asked what inspired this choice, he explains, “In our family, keeping cows has been a long-standing tradition. We ensure they receive the best possible care, which also allows us to enjoy pure dairy products like milk and butter. In today’s world, finding truly pure food is rare, so we prioritize providing high-quality nutrition to our cows. We believe in the philosophy of karma—what you give is what you receive. Since childhood, I’ve been taught how to care for cows and their calves, which instilled in me values of responsibility and compassion. According to Hindu tradition, cows are sacred and often referred to as Gau Mata. Serving them feels like a blessing, and their presence brings a deep sense of fulfillment.”

Srikant’s calf, named Gauri, was lovingly named by his father. He adds, “Just like people choose pets based on their preferences—be it a dog, cat, or any other animal—I have always been drawn to cows. Being around them brings a unique sense of peace and joy. My father raised me with the values of caring for animals, and since childhood, I’ve helped in preparing their food, feeding them, and ensuring their well-being. We provide them with high-nutrient fodder, including berseem, a special green plant that promotes their strength and health. I used to cut it fresh from the fields myself and feed them. The process of tending to them is both rewarding and soothing.”

When asked about the experience of having a calf as a pet, Srikant Dwivedi shares, “My friends and acquaintances appreciate this aspect of my life. They love hearing stories about my village and how we sustain ourselves with our own cows and buffaloes. Unlike city dwellers, we never have to buy dairy products from outside, which feels like a privilege in today’s times. Keeping cows in urban areas is nearly impossible without the necessary space and resources, but in villages, it is a cherished way of life. I feel truly blessed to have a home in my hometown where we can care for animals. It’s a family tradition that has been passed down for generations, and for me, it’s not just about dairy—it’s a personal passion that brings immense satisfaction.”

Reflecting on what his pet has taught him, Srikant Dwivedi says, “The greatest lesson I’ve learned from Gauri is patience. Animals teach us to live in harmony with nature. The contentment and simplicity they bring to life are priceless. They remind us to appreciate the little things, to rest, and to be kind. These lessons—patience, compassion, and coexistence—are invaluable. In the future, I hope to have a small cow barn or dairy farm where I can care for cows in the best possible environment. My dream is to own a house with an open field where they can graze freely, ensuring their comfort and well-being. It’s a vision I look forward to making a reality.”
